The Story of Underscore
Our founders, Jason West and Joe Ales, have led over 65 business change projects since 2006. We’ve also held operational accountability for organisations after we transformed them. It’s led us to a simple belief. That lasting change can only come from inside your organisation.
In 2016, Underscore was established. We set out to create something different. A partner who builds your internal capability to lead change, so you don’t have to rely on outside consultants to make it happen.
Today, the Underscore Change Academy and our wider training services work together to help organisations like yours build capability, confidence, and momentum to deliver lasting business change.

And we’re here for the long haul. Every training course includes 6 months of post-course support to help embed your learning in your day-to-day work. While the Change Academy gives you access to an online community of change experts and other Change Academy members to help you stay on track.

Jason West
Programme Director, Instructor
Jason is the Co-Founder of Underscore Group and a Programme Director who has led multi-year, global transformation programmes in HR, Finance, Procurement and Business Operations.
Joe Ales
Programme Director, Instructor
Joe is the Co-Founder of Underscore Group and an award-winning, business transformation leader known for delivering sustainable change through the integration of people, process and technology.
Susan Howard
Technical Training Lead, Facilitator
Susan heads up Training Services at Underscore. She has deep expertise in technical training covering data analytics, project and risk management, systems roll outs, and office applications and is passionate about passing on her knowledge to others.
Emma-Jane Haigh
Executive Coach, Facilitator
Emma-Jane is an executive coach and leadership development specialist who works with both individuals and teams. She helps leaders develop a transformation mindset, equipping them with the ability to diagnose problems, design solutions, and confidently lead change.
Carla Scott
Technical Trainer, Facilitator
Carla is part of our IT training team and specialises in Excel, Power BI and other MS Office Applications. She has come from an IT support and Account Management background and has worked on several large business critical systems roll outs.
Tom Vanhinsbergh
Digital Learning Guru
Tom is one of our creative geniuses, bringing graphic and instructional design to make the Change Academy educational and engaging.
Matt Gore
Videographer, Producer
Matt is our resident photographer, videographer and photo-journalist. He’s responsible for making Joe and Jason look vaguely presentable and articulate on camera. A feat to test the patience of a saint!
